Etymology
بَذْر comes from the triliteral Semitic root ب-ذ-ر (b-dh-r), meaning to scatter or sow seed. It is the Form I verbal noun (maṣdar) of the verb بَذَرَ, taking the abstract faʿl pattern common for one-time or general actions. The same root gave rise to the Form II verb بَذَّرَ, which shifted from the literal act of scattering seed to the figurative sense of squandering money.
