Etymology

بَيَّن comes from the Semitic root ب-ي-ن, which carries the core sense of separation and distinctness, and by extension clarity. This verb is the Form II pattern of the root, and Form II in Arabic often turns a basic quality into a caused action, so 'to be distinct' becomes 'to make distinct, to clarify'. The same root gives بَيْنَ, the preposition 'between', and بَيَان, 'a clear statement'. This is a Semitic root, not an Indo-European one, so no PIE root applies.
