Etymology

Nuhūḍ is the verbal noun of the Arabic verb nahaḍa, meaning to rise or stand up, built from the triliteral Semitic root n-h-ḍ. The root itself carries the core sense of lifting the body upward or coming out of a resting state. From this literal, physical meaning, Arabic extended the word to cover figurative rising: the recovery of an economy, the growth of an industry, or the revival of a people.
