Etymology
Arabic صالون is a direct borrowing of French salon, which entered Arabic through contact with French culture and language during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. French salon in turn comes from Italian salone, an augmentative of sala, meaning a large hall. Sala itself derives from a Germanic word for a hall or dwelling. Arabic did not adapt the word to a native root pattern; it simply absorbed the whole form and gave it regular noun inflection.
