Etymology
دُفْعَة comes from the Arabic root د-ف-ع (d-f-ʿ), whose core verb دَفَعَ means to push or to shove, and by extension to pay. دُفْعَة is a noun of a single instance built on the فُعْلَة pattern, so it names one discrete push: one payment handed over, or one group sent through at once. From there it widened to mean a batch of goods, a cohort of students, or the phrase 'all at once'.
