Etymology
تَرَدَّد is the Form V (تفعّل) verb built on the triliteral Semitic root ر-د-د, which carries the core sense of returning or giving something back. Form V adds a reflexive, repetitive force to the root, so the verb literally means to keep returning to oneself or to a place. That back-and-forth image gives rise to its two main senses: hesitating, because the mind keeps swinging between choices, and frequenting a place, because the body keeps going back to it.
