Etymology
Faras comes from the triliteral Semitic root f-r-s. The same root gives Hebrew parash, meaning horseman or rider, which points to a shared old Semitic word family built around horses and riding. Arabic then built a wide set of derived words on this root, from the rider himself to the code of conduct tied to mounted warriors.
