Etymology
تَسْجيل is the verbal noun (maṣdar) of the Form II verb سَجَّلَ, "to record, register," from the triliteral root س-ج-ل. The تَفْعيل (tafʿīl) pattern regularly forms the noun of action for such verbs. The related noun سِجِلّ, "register, ledger," is old and appears in the Quran; some scholars have linked it to Latin sigillum, "seal," but that connection is disputed.
