Etymology
Tamashshā belongs to the root m-sh-y, a core Arabic root meaning to walk or go. The verb is built in Form V (tafaʼʼala), which adds a reflexive or gradual sense to the plain Form I verb mashā. So while mashā simply means to walk, tamashshā means to walk oneself about, to take a stroll. Arabic is a Semitic language, so it carries no Indo-European ancestry.
