Etymology
سِفارَة comes from the Semitic root س-ف-ر, tied to travel and journeying, and by extension to uncovering or making something known. A سفير (safīr, ambassador) is literally one who travels between courts to carry messages. سِفارَة takes the pattern فِعالة, which turns a person's title into the name of their office or institution, so the word came to mean the ambassador's office and, in modern use, the embassy itself.
