Etymology
The word comes from the Semitic root و-ص-ل (w-ṣ-l), which carries the core sense of connecting, arriving, or joining. تَواصَل is built on Form VI (تَفاعَل), a verb pattern that regularly marks reciprocal or mutual action. So where وَصَلَ means simply to arrive or connect, تَواصَلَ means to connect with one another, hence to communicate.
