Etymology

جاهِز is the active participle of the verb جَهَّزَ, meaning to prepare or to equip. It comes from the triliteral root ج-ه-ز, which carries the sense of putting something into working order. The same root yields جَهاز, a device or apparatus, and تَجهيز, the act of equipping. The word is native Semitic and has no Indo-European source.
