Etymology
The verb comes from the common Semitic triliteral root ج-ل-ب (j-l-b), tied to bringing, fetching, and drawing something toward oneself. From the same root Arabic formed جلابة, a loose hooded robe, which passed into European languages as djellaba and chilaba. The root has no Indo-European source.
