Etymology
Arabic جَمَع comes from the Semitic triliteral root ج-م-ع (j-m-ʿ), which carries the sense of bringing together or collecting. The root is highly productive. It generates the words for the mosque, for Friday, and for society. The Form I verb jamaʿa is the plain base from which those nouns derive.
