Etymology

Jawrab is a loanword from Persian jūrāb, meaning sock or stocking. Classical Arabic dictionaries such as Lisan al-Arab already flag it as a foreign term absorbed into Arabic. Once borrowed, it was fitted into native patterns: it took a regular plural, jawārib, on the fawāʿil template used for many quadriliteral nouns.
