Etymology
حالِيّ is the relative (nisba) adjective of حال (ḥāl), meaning state or condition. The noun comes from the root ح-و-ل, which carries the sense of turning and changing. The adjective therefore points to the state that holds right now, the present or current one. Arabic media and official writing use it constantly for current and present-day.
