Etymology
حَدِيد comes from the Semitic root ح-د-د (ḥ-d-d), whose core sense is sharpness or a firm edge. Arabic uses the same root for حَدّ (a boundary or edge) and حَادّ (sharp), so iron was named for the keen edge it gives to tools and weapons. This is a native Arabic development, not a borrowing, and it has no Indo-European origin.
