Etymology
حُدوث is the verbal noun of the verb ḥadatha, 'to happen.' The root ḥ-d-th carries the sense of something new coming into being. The same root gives ḥadīth, 'speech' and the sayings of the Prophet, and ḥādith, 'accident.' Cognate roots in Hebrew and Aramaic mean 'new.'
