Etymology
سَوْفَ is a native Arabic particle of futurity (حرف استقبال/تنفيس) placed before an imperfect verb to mark the future. Traditional grammarians link it to the triliteral notion س-و-ف, also seen in the verb سَوَّفَ ('to put off, procrastinate'), reflecting an idea of pushing an action forward in time. It is invariant and does not inflect.
