شَفَى comes from the Semitic triliteral root ش ف ي, which covers the idea of healing and cure across a family of related words. The verb itself means literally 'he healed,' and it shares its root with the noun شِفَاء (healing), a word made famous by two Quranic verses that call honey and revelation sources of شفاء.
