Etymology
صَوَّر is a Form II (causative/intensive) verb built on the Semitic root ص-و-ر (Ṣ-W-R), which carries the core sense of forming or shaping. The same root gives صُورَة (ṣūra), meaning form, shape, or image, from which English gets no direct link, since this is a Semitic root, not an Indo-European one. Form II adds gemination of the middle radical, turning the basic idea of 'form' into the active sense of 'make an image of' or 'give shape to'.
