Etymology
Ṣuḥba comes from the Semitic root ṣ-ḥ-b, whose core sense is to accompany or keep close to someone. From this root Arabic builds ṣāḥib, the ordinary word for a friend or the holder of something, and ṣuḥba itself, the abstract noun for the state of being in someone's company. The word carries into everyday speech phrases like bi-ṣuḥbatik, meaning in your company.
