Etymology
فَحْص is the verbal noun of the verb فَحَصَ, to examine or scrutinize. The triliteral root ف ح ص carries the sense of looking into something closely, and in older usage even of digging into the ground to search. In the modern language the word settled on inspection and testing, above all in medicine and engineering.
