Etymology
مُلاحَظة comes from the verb لاحَظَ, 'to notice or observe,' built on the root l-ḥ-ẓ. The root's older sense is the sidelong glance, the look from the corner of the eye, kept in لَحْظة, 'a glance' or 'a moment.' As a Form III verbal noun, the word names the act of observing, then the result of it: a remark, a note, a comment.
