أَقْمِشَة (aqmisha)fabrics, plural of qumāsh
تَقْمِيش (taqmīsh)the act of gathering scraps or clutter

Etymology

Qumāsh comes from the Arabic triliteral root q-m-sh. The base verb qamasha means to gather odds and ends, scraps picked up here and there, often junk. The noun qumāsh first named a heap of such gathered items, then narrowed in Modern Standard Arabic and most dialects to mean woven cloth. This is a native Semitic development, not a borrowing from another language family.
