Etymology
نُفُوذ comes from the Arabic root ن-ف-ذ (n-f-dh), which carries the core sense of piercing or passing all the way through something. The verb نَفَذَ describes an arrow going clean through a target or a ruling taking full legal effect. نُفُوذ is the verbal noun built on the فُعُول pattern, literally 'penetration,' and it extended in meaning to describe the power to make one's will felt and carried out, that is, influence.
