Etymology
Kawkab descends from Proto-Semitic *kabkab-, a reduplicated form meaning 'star.' The same word surfaces across the Semitic family, from Akkadian to Hebrew. In Arabic the sense later narrowed from 'star' toward 'planet,' while the older 'star' meaning survived in poetry and religious texts.
