Etymology
Mawhūb comes from the Arabic root w-h-b, tied to the verb wahaba, meaning to give or bestow. Mawhūb is the passive participle, built on the mafʿūl pattern, and it literally denotes someone or something that has been given. Over time the word narrowed to mean a person given talent, hence gifted or talented. The same root produces hiba, gift, and mawhiba, talent.
