Etymology
مُصاب is the passive participle of the Form IV verb أصاب, 'to hit or befall.' Both come from the Semitic root ص-و-ب, which carries the idea of striking a target and, by extension, of being correct (compare صواب, 'the right thing'). A person who is مُصاب has been struck: by a wound, a disease, or a misfortune.
