Etymology
مُكَوِّن comes from the Arabic root ك-و-ن, which carries the sense of being, existing, or becoming. The Form II verb كَوَّنَ means to form or constitute something, and مُكَوِّن is its active participle: the thing that forms or makes up something else. This is why the word settled into the everyday sense of a component or ingredient, the part that constitutes a whole.
