Etymology
مُنْشَغِل comes from the triliteral Arabic root ش-غ-ل (sh-gh-l), which carries the idea of work or occupation. The root forms the Form VII verb انشغل, a reflexive or inchoative pattern that means to become occupied or taken up by something on one's own. مُنْشَغِل is the active participle of that verb, so it literally describes someone who has entered the state of being occupied, hence busy or preoccupied.
