Etymology
هَدَّد is the Form II (intensive/causative) verb built on the triliteral root ه-د-د. The base root carries the sense of shaking, rumbling, or tearing something down, as in the related verb هَدَّ, to demolish. Doubling the middle radical shifts the meaning toward an intensive, directed action: making someone feel the shaking force of a threat. As a Semitic root, it has no Indo-European origin.
