Etymology
واثِق is the active participle of the verb وَثِقَ, meaning to trust or to have confidence in. It comes from the Semitic triliteral root و-ث-ق, which carries the sense of firmness and reliability. The same root gives ثِقة, trust, and مِيثاق, covenant. A person called واثِق is literally one who trusts, and by extension one who is sure and self-assured.
