وَجَدَ derives from the common Semitic triliteral root و-ج-د (w-j-d), denoting 'to find, come upon.' In Arabic this root unfolded into a striking semantic spread: concrete 'finding' (wajada), abstract 'existence/being' (wujūd), inner 'feeling/conscience' (wijdān), and mystical 'ecstasy' (wajd). It is an assimilated (mithāl) verb whose initial wāw is elided in the imperfect, yielding يَجِد (yajid).
