Etymology
Modern Greek ένεση derives from Ancient Greek ἔνεσις, a verbal noun from ἐνίημι 'to send in, inject,' which is ἐν- 'in' plus ἵημι 'to send, let go, throw.' The medical sense 'injection' grew naturally from the literal idea of 'sending a substance in.' The same ἵημι root lies behind words such as άφεση 'remission' and σύνεση 'prudence.'
