αίτησηapplication, requestEtymology
Απαίτηση is the noun form of the verb απαιτώ, built from the prefix από- (off, from, with intensive force) and the verb αιτώ (to ask, to request). The suffix -ση turns the verb into an abstract noun of action, so απαίτηση literally names the act of demanding. The word has stayed close to this sense from Ancient Greek through to Modern Greek.
