Etymology
Αρρωσταίνω is built from the adjective άρρωστος, meaning sick or unwell, plus the suffix -αίνω, which turns an adjective into a verb of becoming. This pattern is common in Greek: a plain quality becomes a verb describing the shift into that state. Άρρωστος itself splits into the negative prefix α- and a form tied to the old verb ῥώννυμι, to make strong, so the adjective originally meant something like without strength.
