Etymology
Δεκάδα comes from δέκα, the Greek word for "ten", combined with the collective suffix -άδα (from ancient -άς, genitive -άδος), which turns a number into a noun naming a set of that many things. The ancient form δεκάς, δεκάδος already meant "a group of ten" and was used for units of soldiers, citizens, or objects. It should not be confused with δεκαετία, which means a ten-year period.
