Etymology
Compound of the prefix κατά- ('down, completely, to a final point') and the ancient verb λήγω ('to cease, leave off, come to an end'). The combination conveys arriving at the point where something stops — hence 'to end up' or 'to wind up at'. The figurative sense of reaching a conclusion or settlement developed naturally from this spatial notion of a final stopping point.
