Etymology
From Ancient Greek μαγεία (mageía), 'the art of the Magi, sorcery', derived from μάγος (mágos), the term for a Persian priest. The word μάγος itself was borrowed into Greek from Old Persian maguš. From Greek it spread through Latin magia into most European languages.
