Etymology

Παραγγελία comes from the verb παραγγέλλω, built from the prefix παρά (beside, alongside) and ἀγγέλλω (to announce, to bring word). The original sense was a message or instruction passed along to someone else. Over time this narrowed in everyday speech to a request placed for goods, and it stayed broader in legal and military language, where it still means a formal order or directive.
