Etymology

Πεπρωμένο is the neuter perfect passive participle of the ancient verb πόρω, meaning to give or allot. In early Greek thought, what is πεπρωμένον is what the gods have already handed out to a person, their share of life laid out in advance. The same root gave πόρος, a passage or means, and it survives in modern words for travel and commerce.
