Etymology
πολιτεία derives from πολίτης ("citizen") with the abstract suffix -εία, ultimately rooted in πόλις ("city, city-state"). In Ancient Greek it meant citizenship, the body of citizens, and the constitution or form of government — Plato famously used it as the title of his Republic. In Modern Greek it denotes the State as an institution, or an administrative "state" (as in the United States).
