Etymology

Greek borrowed ρεπορτάζ directly from French reportage in the early twentieth century, as newspapers adopted French press vocabulary. French reportage comes from English report, which goes back through Old French reporter to Latin reportare, meaning to carry back. Latin reportare combines re- (back) with portare (to carry).
