Etymology
σκέψη derives from Ancient Greek σκέψις ('examination, consideration, perception'), the verbal noun of σκέπτομαι ('to look at, examine, consider'). The verb goes back to the Proto-Indo-European root *spek- ('to observe, look'), which in Greek underwent metathesis to *skep-. The same root yields the international word 'skeptic'.
