Υποστεί is a form of the verb υφίσταμαι, from ancient Greek ὑφίσταμαι: ὑπό (under) plus ἵσταμαι (to stand, middle voice of ἵστημι). The original sense was to stand under or support something, which shifted to mean to bear or undergo hardship. The perfective stem υποστ- appears after θα or να to describe a future or hypothetical act of undergoing something.
