Etymology
χειροτερεύω is built on χειρότερος, the irregular comparative meaning worse that Greek has always used in place of a regular comparative of κακός, bad. The verbal suffix -εύω turns that adjective into a verb, giving the sense to become worse, and by extension to make worse. Despite the visual resemblance, it has no link to χέρι, hand. The deeper origin of χείρων and χειρότερος is not settled, so no reconstructed root is given here.
