Îndeajuns is built from three pieces: the preposition în (in), the preposition de (of), and ajuns, the past participle of a ajunge (to arrive, to reach, to suffice). A ajunge comes from Latin adjungere (to join, to add to), formed from ad- and iungere (to join, to yoke). In Romanian the verb shifted meaning toward arriving at a point or being sufficient, and the phrase de ajuns hardened into a single adverb meaning enough.
