Etymology
Romanian borrowed "lamă" from French "lame", which goes back to Latin "lamina", meaning a thin plate or sheet of metal. The word entered Romanian during the nineteenth-century wave of French borrowings that modernized much of the technical and everyday vocabulary. Its sense narrowed in everyday use to the cutting edge of a knife or razor.
