Etymology
The origin of "nor" is not settled. Romanian etymological dictionaries list it as uncertain, since it has no clear source in Latin or in the Slavic languages that shaped much of Romanian vocabulary. Some scholars treat it as a survivor from the pre-Roman substrate spoken in the region before Latin arrived. It is not related to "noră" (daughter-in-law), which comes from Latin "nurus", despite the similar spelling.
